tap for teacher feat

A new app, created in South Australia by a South Australian company, is set to revolutionise the process in which schools find replacements for teachers who call in sick or for other reasons… It has been compared to the popular dating app, Tinder. Have we caught your attention? Intrigued? Do read on…

The app, fittingly named Tap for Teacher, is the clever little brainchild of Petrah Harslett, the Director and sole owner of Australia’s leading educations job site, teachers.on.net. The app aims to solve what would normally be a time consuming and on going problem.

The whole process is very simple, Ms Harslett explains,“You send a request which goes directly to the smart phones of teachers who are registered with your school and they tap back to respond.”

Schools often struggle and scramble to find replacement teachers early in the morning, making multiple calls or sending out a barrage of texts trying to fill the position before the bell rings for the start of the day.

With the introduction of this app comes the ability for schools to use one easy system to source their relief teachers and in a way whereby the expenses can be defined.

“We are the only relief teacher resource in Australia using push notification technology- which means the cost to schools is completely contained. Some schools use SMS which is 20 year old technology and has the disadvantage of uncontrolled costs,” she said.

The company’s research has revealed that some schools were incurring the expense of employing someone part time just to manage the everyday difficulty of finding casual teachers at very short notice.

“Tap For Teacher is a totally mobile device based using the latest IT to get results quickly and cost effectively.”

That means that Principals looking for a relief teachers can receive a response within a few minutes. The app also notifies other teachers once the position has been filled.

For a low monthly or annual fixed cost, schools can get rid of the headache inducing ring around for a relief teacher, and simply tap for a teacher.

Australian Secondary Principals’ Association, Executive Director Rob Nairn said: “This is the perfect app for schools, solving a daily problem with completely mobile technology. teachers.on.net has a long history of working closely with education and has won the trust of schools all around the country.”
